- Empowering Future Leaders: NYC Law Enforcement Explorers Experience at St. John's University

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, The Division of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security hosted an event with over 50 NYC Law Enforcement Explorers and their agency advisors. The Law Enforcement Explorers program provides young men and women from the city's diverse communities with an introduction to a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system.
The Explorers were welcomed with an orientation to St. John’s and an overview of the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security, Bachelor of Science programs. They also participated in seminars on Stop and Frisk and Forensic Psychology and got hands-on experience working in the Forensic Science Lab and Homeland Security Disaster Simulator.
According to Travis Smith, the Director of Exploring in NYC,
“The kids had a blast, and I enjoyed myself as well. Thank you both for taking time to show our kids around your campus, many have never been to a University, and it is good to expose them to this environment.”
